But what does "cloud computing" mean to us and how can we take full advantage of the countless possibilities it offers us? The term "cloud" refers to the use exclusively of computing power of networks remote from each user, a practice familiar to all users of online data management and storage applications, such as email, online photo albums, etc.

Cloud Computing adopts the main features of Utility Computing, but is not limited to them. At the same time, it provides an easy-to-use service delivery environment, with features such as self-monitoring and automatic recovery.

Cloud Computing offers SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) services, a model that operates on the logic of subleasing software from a central service provider, instead of purchasing a special license, a policy that drastically reduces the cost for the user, since it does not burden him with the purchase and maintenance of hardware. The software is located on a network of servers so that it is available as a service via the Internet. Characteristic features of the services offered by Cloud Computing are the high quality and speed of processing, stability and a high degree of optimization.

A multitude of Cloud Computing applications have made a strong appearance in Europe and America. Many of the largest software companies have already begun promoting and integrating this new technology into their existing programs.

In Greece, since just last year, the equivalent of Cloud software for the computerization of hotel units and catering facilities was presented at the 42nd XENIA Exhibition, where the first Greek-designed online Product Suite using Cloud Computing technology made its maiden appearance. The online computerization platform of HIT S.A. came last year to shake up the waters in the field of Tourism. The revolutionary, for domestic standards, very-low-cost application [from 1 euro per day!] came in times of crisis to excite exhibitors and visitors with its unlimited possibilities and the innovative work environment it offers to its user.
